Dr Carine Saison

Carine has over 10 years’ experience in soil science, particularly in soil and water contamination from agricultural and past industrial activities (former coke plants).  Her research also included the impact of compost amendments on soil microbial activities, and terrestrial ecotoxicology aspects of the use of pesticides.  In this capacity, she worked at CSIRO and in French Research Institutes (IRD and CIRAD in Montpellier).  Carine also worked as an NRM consultant for three years where she was interested in ecosystem service provision on private land, conservation auctions for biodiversity, farm productivity and carbon sequestration.

Key skills include:

  • Soil and water sampling and monitoring
  • Ecotoxicology testing
  • Analytical methods for organic contaminants (incl. working with radionuclides)
  • Data analysis (climate data)
  • Scientific and technical report writing
  • Staff supervision (technicians and postdoctoral fellow)
  • GIS (ArcGIS)
  • Development of management plans for landholders (native vegetation management)
  • Landholder and stakeholder engagement
