More than 40 years research experience in soil science. Current research interests include:

  • Physical chemistry of saline and sodic soils
  • Effects of irrigation water quality on soils and plants
  • Effects of different adsorbed cations on soil structural stability based on the different types of clay-cation bonds
  • Effects of potassium in waste waters on soil structure
  • Transient salinity in sodic soils affecting productivity in dryland agriculture
  • Subsoil constraints in agricultural soils
  • Toxic effects of aluminium in high pH soils
  • Abiotic stress in alkaline soil

Dr Rengasamy has published 90 refereed papers in international journals and presented about 60 conference papers, several of them by invitation. He has successfully supervised several GRDC projects, and supervised 12 PhD, Master and Honours students. He was awarded the Prescott Medal for Soil Science for his significant contribution to Soil Science.
